On this one day workshop, you will be guided by Sarah to create a Zarzo Gathering Basket - a modern interpretation of a traditional Spanish basket, creating a sculptural yet functional piece for everyday life.
 
The course aims to give a gentle introduction to the wonderful material of willow, whilst allowing you time to enjoy the mediative qualities of the rhythmical weaving patterns involved; a perfect choice for anyone new to willow weaving or for those who are looking to step away from the busy world to experience the calming processes that basketry can offer.
 
Weaving in a small group people, there will be plenty of guidance from Sarah, along with time to learn a little more about how willow is prepared ready for weaving before ending the day with a basket made by your own two hands.
 
About the venue
 
Nestled at the foot of the Malvern hills, the elegant Grade II listed Elmslie House makes for a beautfiul backdrop to the workshop. Anna Taylor, owner of Elmslie House and craft ambassador, will also be our chef for the day, preparing a light seasonal vegetarian lunch, followed by a slice of delicious cake with coffee/tea.

What you need to bring: Please wear practical clothing and bring a notebook if you wish to document the process.
 
Experience and Accessibility: This course is aimed at beginners, no experience is required.
 
Willow weaving is physically active in all area. It can particularly hard on the hands, so is unsuitable for those who suffer from arthritis or other conditions that affect the hands. Courses will involve working at many levels, including bending down to the floor, working on laps or standing, and working seated at tables.
 
Timings: This is a one day course with two different options for dates, either Saturday 22nd November or Sunday 30th November.
 
If you have booked for Saturday 22nd November: Arrival 10am for a 10.30 start. Finish time approximately 4pm.
 
If you have booked for Sunday 30th November: Arrival 9.30 for a 10am start. Finish time approximately 3.30pm.
