On this two day course you will learn how to make a round foraging basket using Somerset willow. A great basket to try your hand at willow weaving. Using tried and tested willow basketry techniques, you will work in a small group of 8, guided by two tutors, Sarah and Marcus. You will begin by completing a base, before moving onto adding uprights, weaving the sides and border, and adding a handle; ending with a basket made with your own hands.

Skills taught: 

Base construction,

3 pull down wale and 3 rod wale

Side weave - French Randing

Trac or rod border

How to add a wrapped handle 

 

There is some scope to adapt your baskets shape, size and colour to your own design and needs. There will also be time to discuss where to source willow for basketry weaving, as well as how to prepare it for weaving. 

 

This course is designed for beginners.

Please bring a packed lunch.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

Materials and use of tools included. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day.

EXPERIENCE AND ACCESSIBILITY:

This course is aimed at beginners. Willow weaving is physically active and can be hard on the hands, so is unsuitable for those who suffer from arthritis or other conditions that affect the hands.  Courses are designed for adults.

​

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation and a full refund can be obtained 8 weeks prior to the course date. 

 

Should there be insufficient numbers for the course to go ahead (less than 4 participants), it will be cancelled 3 weeks in advance, with partcipants notified via email.  Should there be insufficient numbers to need two tutors, only one tutor will teach over the weekend course (Sarah). In the unlikely event that we have to cancel a course for any reason, a full refund will be given (for the full price of the course fee only). If you book and pay but do not attend the course, no refund will be given.
